Case Study: Kumu achieves fewer networking issues and faster issue resolution to thrive in social livestreaming with Embrace

A Embrace Case Study

Preview of the Kumu Case Study

Kumu uses Embrace to eliminate networking issues and thrive in the social livestreaming space

Kumu is a social livestreaming platform that connects users through messaging, live video, game shows and gifting campaigns, with a user base concentrated in the Philippines on older Android devices and unreliable networks. Faced with frequent ANRs and app failures and limited insight from Crashlytics, Kumu needed better visibility to distinguish whether problems were caused by code, devices, or poor network conditions. They partnered with Embrace and adopted its mobile observability tools, including Network Monitoring and Session Replay.

Using Embrace, Kumu can jump from a user complaint to the exact unsampled session, see network calls and device context, and reproduce issues to determine if they stem from connectivity or the app itself. Embrace’s insights (for example, identifying heavy Akamai image downloads causing ANRs) let Kumu test mitigations, validate lowered ANR rates, shorten issue-resolution times, and ship features faster — supporting a scale of over two million monthly active users and roughly 10,000 daily downloads.
