Scary Strokes, a family entertainment center in Waldorf, MD owned by Doug and LaNeta Roth, faced a three-month COVID-19 closure and the challenge of rebuilding brand awareness and guest engagement with very limited staff and resources. To support a safe, low-touch reopening they worked with Embed, using Embed’s Mobile Wallet and free marketing toolkits to communicate reopening plans and keep guests connected while minimizing in-person interactions.
Embed implemented a contactless Mobile Wallet (integrated with Apple Wallet/Google Pay and Embed’s readers, kiosk and POS hardware), added QR-based check-in and provided marketing materials, enabling guests to top up and redeem virtual game cards from their phones while capturing customer data for loyalty and contact tracing. The result: Scary Strokes reopened June 19 with strong community response, booked parties the first weekend back, and is operating at about 60% of normal revenue after the three-month closure with an upward trend — while gaining safer, more convenient operations and actionable customer data thanks to Embed.
