Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg runs 1,200 trains and 520,000 lights with Embarcadero Delphi

Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg, the world's largest model railway and a major tourist attraction, faced the immense challenge of controlling its highly complex and expansive system. Their operation, which runs 365 days a year, required extremely reliable software to synchronize over 1,000 trains, 9,000 cars, 385,000 lights, and other elements across 1,500 m² with very little allowed downtime. To meet this need, they turned to Embarcadero and its development tool, Delphi.

Using Delphi from Embarcadero, the team developed a flexible and scalable software solution comprising around one million lines of code. This system controls all vehicle movements, event triggers, and lighting, resulting in high operational reliability for over two decades. The measurable impact is a breathtaking, fully synchronized miniature world that reliably delights 1.5 million visitors annually. Embarcadero's tools have proven to be an investment-safe foundation, enabling the continuous development of new features like a detailed Formula 1 race simulation.
