Labrador Technologies (LTI), led by senior architect Lori Olsen, needed to build eTriever, a secure subscription web application that gives exploration companies, service firms, financial institutions and government agencies access to GeoLOGIC’s data center (over 700,000 Canadian wells plus pipelines, land and services). The project, originally scoped for .NET, required enterprise capabilities—simultaneous connections to multiple databases, a desktop-like user experience and minimal IT support—so the team switched to Ruby on Rails to meet aggressive delivery and interoperability needs.

LTI developed eTriever using Embarcadero’s 3rdRail Ruby on Rails IDE, leveraging integrated tools like command interfaces, code completion, test runners, a Dependencies View and Rails Explorer to speed development and improve code visibility. The result is a fast, stable web application with a desktop feel, daily-updated data access to over 700,000 wells, automatic server-side updates and minimal IT intervention, delivering higher developer productivity and a smooth user experience.
