A Embarcadero Technologies Case Study
Image-Line Software, the Belgian creator of FL Studio (installed over 10 million times a year and used by artists like Avicii and Martin Garrix), faced the challenge of maintaining a massive codebase—over 2.5 million lines of code and 300 assembler functions—while a small development team (about 15 people) needed native performance and easier cross‑platform support, particularly for Mac users.
To address this, the company adopted Delphi as its primary development platform. Delphi’s inline assembly, direct linking, and pre‑compiled units sped up coding, compilation and prototyping compared with C++, and its 64‑bit compiler plus native OS X support enabled true cross‑platform builds. The move delivered faster development cycles, native performance on both Windows and Mac, and the potential to significantly expand the product’s Mac user base.
