Rapid City Regional Airport Tracks Historical Data To Consistently Meet FAA Inspections

Rapid City Regional Airport, which handles hundreds of commercial flights to seven U.S. destinations, was relying on memory and hand‑written binders for maintenance—making FAA annual inspections, tenant work requests, and consistent technician training difficult to manage. Deputy Airport Director Doug Curry needed a fully featured but easy‑to‑use CMMS to capture historical compliance data, standardize procedures, and improve work request handling.

In 2009 the airport implemented eMaint for its flexibility and customizable fields, rolling out features gradually to ensure adoption. eMaint provided a web work‑request link, allowed PM procedures to be imported from FAA guidance and auto‑generated PMs, and centralized work orders—delivering documented FAR 139 compliance, faster corrective maintenance and troubleshooting, reduced duplicate work, more consistent processes for new technicians, and the ability to expand into labor and parts cost tracking.
