Cell-Type Annotation Research Company needed a faster, more reproducible way to annotate cell types from scRNA-seq data, as manually retrieving and integrating public datasets and searching for marker genes across clusters was time-consuming and error-prone. Vendor Elucidata addressed this challenge using Polly, its curated multi-omics data platform, to help streamline analysis of public scRNA-seq datasets for cell-type and cell-function annotation.

Elucidata built and validated a custom pipeline on Polly that semi-automated cluster annotation using marker-gene database matching with Clustermole and curated reference datasets. The solution successfully identified cell types across liver scRNA-seq datasets, including 12 cell-type populations in one validation dataset, and achieved 100% accuracy for a clearly defined fibroblast cluster, showing that the pipeline can reliably annotate well-defined homogeneous clusters.
