Sam Houston State University gains flexibility and an improved user experience by upgrading to Banner 9 by Ellucian

Sam Houston State University (SHSU), a Texas institution serving about 20,000 students, needed to modernize its Banner ERP to improve the user experience—especially on mobile devices—and to move away from client‑based Java/Oracle‑Forms. To address these challenges the university engaged Ellucian and evaluated Banner (Release 9) for its updated, intuitive interface and transformation modules.

Ellucian implemented Banner (Release 9) for Human Resources, Finance, and General Administration using a sandbox, phased rollout and parallel run with the legacy Banner environment. The transition was smooth and required no additional support staffing—SHSU reported no increase in help‑desk tickets or calls—and users gave overwhelmingly positive feedback on the refreshed UI and multi‑device access. Ellucian’s solution delivered greater flexibility, easier upgrades and maintenance, and improved efficiencies for students, faculty and staff.
