John Brown University creates a stronger, uniform advising process with Colleague® Student Planning

John Brown University faced inconsistent, largely undocumented advising practices that left some students surprised by missing graduation requirements and required time-consuming manual audits. To address this, JBU partnered with Ellucian and rolled out Colleague Student Planning (Colleague by Ellucian), a web‑based self‑service planning tool to align students, advisors, and institutional records.

Ellucian’s Colleague Student Planning provided integrated scheduling, automatic provisioning of student and course data, advisor approval controls, visible notes, and on‑track indicators. The solution made advising more consistent and transparent, empowered students to build four‑year plans before meetings, reduced the registrar’s need to intervene on registration issues, streamlined graduation audits, and helped the university identify and resolve potential problems earlier.
