Integrating systems boosts efficiency and saves money

Memorial University of Newfoundland needed a better way to manage faculty workload and compensation for about 1,300 full- and part-time faculty across multiple campuses. The university’s home‑grown, paper‑based system required heavy manual intervention, maintained data in multiple places, and threatened costly customizations ahead of an Ellucian Banner upgrade, so Memorial turned to Ellucian and its Banner Faculty Load and Compensation (FLAC) solution to eliminate redundant data and streamline processes.

Ellucian implemented Banner FLAC together with Banner Workflow to create a single point of entry, automate multi‑tiered approvals, and pull instructional and compensation data directly from the SIS. The new system was rolled out campus‑wide in eight months, automated creation and distribution of hundreds of appointment letters each semester, improved data quality and interdepartmental collaboration, and saved an estimated 230 staff hours while eliminating paper and reducing manual errors.
