Elon University uses experiential data to propel students to success

Elon University, a private four‑year liberal arts institution serving about 6,700 students, needed to modernize its transcript service to capture and communicate the full range of students’ experiential learning. Facing the challenge of collecting, integrating, and interpreting a massive amount of co‑curricular data, Elon partnered with Ellucian and used Colleague® by Ellucian to tie a new digital, interactive Elon Experiences Transcript (EET) to its student information system.

Using Ellucian’s Colleague to centralize detailed experiential and competency‑based data, Elon implemented the EET with embedded artifacts and advisor‑driven skill tracking, unlocking analytics for faculty, deans, and administrators. The solution has produced a “historically immense” dataset that supports program improvement and predictive insights, helped demonstrate links (for example, between co‑curricular experiences and higher GPA for minority students), and supports Elon’s strong outcomes—including first‑year retention of 89% and four‑year graduation of 81%.
