Case Study: George Washington University achieves cloud resilience and future-ready innovation with Ellucian and AWS

A Ellucian Case Study

Preview of the George Washington University Case Study

How leveraging corporate partnerships advanced the George Washington University’s support of students, researchers, and future innovation

George Washington University faced rising strain on its fragile legacy infrastructure after a December 2020 data center outage exposed how difficult it was to support students, researchers, and faculty on-premises. The university needed a more resilient way to run its core systems, including its ERP, and turned to Ellucian and AWS to help modernize its environment.

Working with Ellucian, GW is migrating Banner to a SaaS environment while moving the rest of its infrastructure to AWS cloud services. The result is a more resilient, scalable, and budget-predictable IT foundation that reduces maintenance burden, supports faster provisioning for researchers, and improves peak-period performance; GW also expects to cut its on-premises data center footprint by 50% and reduce carbon emissions by up to 96% per migrated workload.
