The Australian Queer Archives launches a redesigned website in 2020 with Ellis Jones

Ellis Jones was engaged by The Australian Queer Archives (AQuA), an organization preserving Australia's LGBTIQ+ history, to address significant challenges with its outdated website. The volunteer-run archive's digital presence struggled with an inaccurate and obsolete content management system, poor user experience, and a soon-to-be-obsolete web host, which hindered its ability to share its vast collection effectively.

The solution from Ellis Jones involved a deep listening process and a collaborative scope of work that included developing new UX principles, a revised visual language, and a functional prototype. The resulting website, launched in 2020, provides a memorable experience that celebrates the archive's cultural diversity, facilitates exploration of key artefacts, and supports fundraising. The project was highly commended at the AMaGA Victoria 2021 Awards, successfully modernizing AQuA's digital capability.
