On-board Generator Greatly Improves Efficiency and Lowers Maintenance Costs

Oil & Gas Company was struggling with high failure and theft rates of stand-alone, gas‑powered generator sets on its diesel trucks. Frequent fueling mix-ups, burnouts from heavy use, and the need for drivers to carry gas cans prevented access to some customer sites and increased maintenance and downtime. Element Fleet Management was engaged to address these operational and safety challenges.

Element Fleet Management worked with a supplier to develop a customized, integrated on‑board generator insert that runs off the truck’s diesel engine and is built into the vehicle. The solution eliminated separate fuel handling, reduced maintenance and theft, increased power and driver safety, and improved productivity and durability; more than 100 trucks have been outfitted to date and the integrated generator is now an option for all future vehicles.
