English Heritage brings Dover Wartime Tunnels to life with Electrosonic in a 60-meter immersive AV experience

English Heritage sought to create an immersive historical experience in the unique environment of the Dover Wartime Tunnels, a network of claustrophobic tunnels 26 meters underground. The challenge was to use audiovisual solutions to authentically recreate the atmosphere of the Dunkirk evacuation operations center, despite the difficult climate and long, winding, non-straight projection surfaces. Vendor Electrosonic was tasked with providing the technology to bring this compelling story to life.

Electrosonic implemented a comprehensive audiovisual solution featuring a spectacular 23-projector presentation that spanned a 60-meter tunnel, along with special lighting, sound effects, and interactive displays. This included animated graphics, archive footage, and silhouetted photographs to build an authentic and haunting atmosphere. The solution successfully recreated the dramatic reality of the wartime tunnels, making the events and people of the Dunkirk evacuation feel real for visitors. Electrosonic's work has resulted in a great visitor attraction that serves as a fitting tribute to the historic rescue.
