Vita Group, a publicly listed Australian retailer with about 1,600 team members across five brands, needed to modernise its 2011 intranet after user behaviour shifted toward mobile and search-first workflows. The legacy design had five separate home-page menus, limited Yammer integration, and poor access for frontline staff on mobile devices, so Vita set out to make search prominent, simplify navigation by role, and build a responsive experience.
Working with Elcom and using Google Analytics and Yammer feedback, Vita built a personalised, Bootstrap-based intranet with live search, AD-driven role views, and reusable code blocks for custom features; masterpages and a staged rollout let them switch to production over a single weekend with zero downtime. The redesign drove major engagement gains—mobile usage +150%, tablet usage +350%—and made information easier to find (team members locate what they need 9x faster), reduced overall search volume, and required in-page updates to under 0.004% of the site’s 25,000+ articles.
