How we transformed the Port Waratah intranet

Port Waratah Coal Services, a long-standing coal terminal operator in the Port of Newcastle, needed to replace a decade-old SharePoint 2013 intranet that was no longer supported. What began as a technical upgrade quickly broadened into a business-wide program to simplify content and design, improve mobile responsiveness, strengthen security, respect branding, and boost staff engagement and communications.

Elcom delivered a modern, secure, cloud-based intranet—The Channel—with a custom, mobile-responsive design, single sign-on links, frontend publishing tools, and API integrations that surface operational and safety metrics for terminals. The new site centralises need-to-know information, supports targeted content and storytelling, and has improved engagement and ease of publishing; ongoing collaboration between Port Waratah and Elcom continues to refine the platform.
