Its legacy Lucene-based search system produced inconsistent indices, required heavy custom code to keep data synchronized, and was too slow to meet growing transaction volumes.

Xoom rebuilt its risk platform on Elasticsearch, gaining fast, scalable search and simpler APIs. The change cut processing time from 20s to 4s (5x faster), supports hundreds of queries per second and millisecond searches on a 200 GB index, reduced code and complexity, and freed developers to focus on higher-value work.
