A Elastic Case Study
XING is Europe’s largest professional social network with about 14 million members and more than six million searches per day. Search is core to the product — members must find people, jobs, groups and events quickly — but XING faced slow responses, timeouts and update delays (sometimes up to 50 minutes) while handling over one million member updates per day, creating a poor user experience and operational risk.
XING adopted Elasticsearch for real-time indexing and a distributed, resilient architecture. The change made updates searchable immediately, improved query speed and reliability, and allowed easy horizontal scaling. Developers could rapidly add features (autocompletion, messaging indexes, better recommendations), resulting in a more responsive, available and flexible search platform.
