Case Study: car2go achieves real-time business and fleet insights from connected cars with Elastic

A Elastic Case Study

Preview of the car2go Case Study

Using Elasticsearch to drive car2go's realtime business insights from their connected cars

car2go is a global free‑floating car‑sharing service with about 2.9 million members and a vehicle rented roughly every 1.3 seconds. Operating large fleets across many cities created a data‑driven challenge: aggregating high‑volume, distributed telemetry and logs to monitor rentals, connectivity, relocations, fraud and security incidents while supporting a microservices/containerized infrastructure and distributed teams.

car2go implemented the Elastic Stack (Beats, Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana) with X‑Pack, multi‑cluster/hot‑warm architecture and Infrastructure as Code to provide self‑service DevOps. The platform ingests terabytes from thousands of endpoints, powers operational dashboards (outages, vehicle saturation, event metrics), automates maintenance with Curator and ElastAlert/Watcher, and applies ML for intrusion detection and identity‑validation analytics—delivering real‑time insights, faster troubleshooting, improved security and scalable observability across datacenters.
