Top European University reduces cyber risk for staff, students with Elastic Security

European University, a nearly two-century-old institution with more than 20,000 students and staff, needed to strengthen cybersecurity as ransomware and phishing threats targeted university networks. Its legacy tools didn’t provide a unified view of security risk, so the school launched its first Security Operations Center (SOC) and turned to Elastic Security to improve detection, visibility, and incident response.

Elastic implemented Elastic Security as the backbone of the university’s SOC, with SIEM, machine-learning-based threat detection, MITRE ATT&CK-aligned rules, and training support to help staff deploy it quickly. The result was faster, more accurate threat detection, including an early alert on an external attack against a WordPress site before it spread further, while also improving monitoring, investigation, and protection for the university’s digital environment.
