The Home Depot - Customer Case Study

Home Depot’s Quote Center is an 80+ person team that supports PRO customers with special-order quoting, merchandising and vendor-facing web tools, quoting billions annually and roughly $500M sold. Their supplier-driven PRO promotions program was bogged down in binders and complex rules, making it hard for high-turnover associates to apply promotions correctly and causing the program to underperform.

Home Depot built a promotional rules engine on the Elastic stack (using search, Percolator and Kibana/Logstash) to evaluate context, match rules and surface adjustments and messages in the Quote Center UI (bulk-pricing badges, tooltips and automated price tiers). The solution automated the complexity, improved the quoting experience, turned associates into effective users of the program, won over marketing and merchandising teams, and provided a scalable, rapid-prototyping platform for future enhancements.
