Shopback Shopping and searching smarter with help from the Elastic Stack

ShopBack and DC Thomson turned to the Elastic Stack to solve performance and relevance problems that were holding back growth. ShopBack, a shopping rewards platform operating across multiple countries with 2 million shoppers, faced slow, non–multi-lingual search and fragmented monitoring that limited scale. DC Thomson, a publisher running several major news sites, needed better content indexing and related-article functionality to boost engagement and monetize subscriptions.

Both organizations implemented Elasticsearch and complementary Elastic tools with rapid results. ShopBack deployed its own Elastic Stack cluster with X-Pack, cutting product search latency from seconds to milliseconds, enabling auto-suggest, supporting 13 million products and multi‑lingual search, and consolidating logs and metrics (now collected every 15 seconds) for faster incident detection. DC Thomson migrated from Solr to Elasticsearch to power related-article recommendations, seeing up to a 40% increase in pageviews, lower bounce rates, higher pages per session and improved ad/subscription revenue, while planning further personalization and editorial analytics.
