Scaling Elasticsearch on a hyper-converged infrastructure at IHG

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), a global hospitality company with over 5,000 hotels and a large corporate technology organization, faced rapid growth in Elastic adoption as teams began ingesting logs and metrics in real time. The surge in data created a scaling and cost challenge: IHG needed a more efficient, scalable way to expand its ELK footprint without prohibitive expense or management overhead.

IHG proved out and then moved its Elastic Stack to a Nutanix hyper-converged infrastructure, using Filebeat/Winlogbeat, Logstash and a messaging queue to centralize log collection, and working with Elastic Support to optimize the deployment. The result is a highly reliable platform managed by a single part-time engineer that ingests up to 4 TB per day and peaks at 120,000 messages per second, delivering rock‑solid uptime and simpler operations.
