A Elastic Case Study
SAP Concur, a leading travel and expense SaaS used by over 45 million people in 150+ countries, was outgrowing its legacy SQL‑based logging system. As usage ballooned, ingest peaked around 200 GB/day (roughly 1,500 docs/sec) and users experienced up to 20‑minute delays; simply buying bigger hardware wasn’t sustainable and Concur needed a horizontally scalable logging strategy to support rapid growth and broader operational needs.
Concur adopted the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Kibana, Logstash/Beats, Watcher, Shield) and added custom plugins to fill gaps, giving teams unified visualization, alerting, and secure, scalable search. Ingest rates climbed from 1,500 to 5,000 and then to about 60,000 docs/sec (≈4 TB/day), and the platform now runs multi‑region clusters handling terabytes per day (≈5 TB/day in the US), supports end‑to‑end ownership across teams, and is managed by a dedicated LAMA team—with plans to leverage Elastic machine learning for operational analytics and rollout automation.
