A Elastic Case Study
The Met Office, the UK’s national meteorological service, needed a better way to manage performance, security, and observability across a complex mix of on-premise, cloud, and SaaS systems. Its logging was fragmented across teams and formats, making it hard to unlock the value of its data and protect critical weather and climate services. Elastic helped the Met Office build a unified logging and analytics platform called CLAS, using Elasticsearch and Elastic Cloud.
Elastic implemented a scalable observability environment on AWS and Azure that can handle more than 2 billion log events per day. With Elastic Common Schema and Kibana dashboards, the Met Office gained centralized visibility, faster root-cause analysis, and easier onboarding for teams like Technology and Observation. Elastic also improved security monitoring and incident response, helping the Met Office trace issues such as Log4j exposure and VPN outages, while ensuring critical systems could scale during severe weather events.
