Mayo Clinic - Customer Case Study

Precision Bioinformatics, led by founder Peter Li, PhD, partnered with Mayo Clinic to address a common healthcare problem: how to bring meaningful, patient-specific analytics to the point of care to improve peri‑operative outcomes. The EASE program sought to move beyond delayed, population‑level “backoffice” analytics by ingesting high‑velocity EMR events, aligning them around clinical reference events (e.g., surgery), and doing so under strict PHI/HIPAA security and institutional authentication constraints.

The team delivered a secure PaaS proof‑of‑concept on Azure that combines encrypted storage, subnet/firewall controls and LDAP-compatible auth with Elasticsearch tooling (percolator, nested/child queries and a query builder) and an interactive UI. The solution enables real‑time cohort selection, event alignment and contour‑style visualizations so clinicians can compare similar patients and make evidence‑based, personalized decisions at the bedside — demonstrating a scalable, secure path to analytics at point‑of‑care.
