Case Study: Mapbox achieves faster, more relevant site-wide search and tailored help-center content with Elastic Site Search

A Elastic Case Study

Mapbox Providing the best content across the site for users

Mapbox, a location data platform that provides maps, search, and navigation building blocks for developers (customers include The Weather Channel, Tableau, and National Geographic), faced a scaling problem: search was implemented with bespoke page filters for each API doc, which was cumbersome and couldn’t scale across SDKs and frameworks. They needed a site‑wide search that could selectively crawl content and let them tailor results for different user needs.

After piloting Elastic Site Search in their help center, Mapbox rolled it out across the site, adding a single code snippet and using the built‑in crawler, relevance tuning, tags, blacklists, and synonym handling to surface the right docs to the right users. The result is faster, more relevant searches and a tighter user experience across the site, plus ongoing analytics‑driven refinement so users rarely see “No results found.”
