A Elastic Case Study
Terradue, a European Space Agency spin-off, needed a way to process massive amounts of Earth observation data to monitor geohazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and floods. Using Elastic and Elasticsearch, Terradue built a query engine to help scientists find the most relevant satellite images and metadata for analyzing ground movement and flood patterns.
Elastic’s solution lets Terradue compare satellite positions, orbital tracks, velocity, and timing to select the best image pairs in about ten seconds. The result has improved geohazard analysis, helped confirm 70 centimeters of ground displacement in central Italy, and supported flood mapping along the Niger River, while powering three of Terradue’s seven platforms in a broader ESA research workspace.
