The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) maintains tens of millions of driver and vehicle records and collects billions in Vehicle Excise Duty, and has been moving its services to cloud-based platforms. During that transition the agency faced technical debt, poor system interoperability and data silos that limited visibility and slowed delivery, so it set a goal to “measure and monitor everything” across a shared Open Services Landscape.

DVLA centralized logs and metrics with the Elastic Stack—using Elastic Common Schema, rollover indices and Kibana dashboards—and invested in instructor-led Elastic Training to scale skills (multiple teams trained). The result: consolidated observability, faster troubleshooting and data-driven decisions, growing internal self-service analytics, stronger customer experience, and an upskilled workforce now exploring Elastic Security and certifications.
