A Elastic Case Study
Docker, the open platform powering a large ecosystem of reusable containers, needed a fast, scalable way for users to discover containers as their library grew rapidly. Their initial RDBMS-based search added load and became too slow and limiting, so the challenge was to deliver high-performance, highly available search without overburdening operations.
Docker adopted Elasticsearch via Elastic Cloud’s hosted service—dedicated clusters with reserved resources and high-availability options—so they could scale easily, offload operational complexity, and maintain consistent performance. The move cut load on their RDBMS, dramatically improved search latency and throughput, increased result relevance using field boosting and function scoring, and was quick to deploy with responsive support.
