Deezer is a global music streaming service with 12 million active users and a catalogue of 40 million tracks available across web, mobile and other platforms. The company needed to handle millions of searches per day with low latency, real-time updates and better tolerance for typos—capabilities their previous search platform could not deliver at scale.
Deezer adopted Elasticsearch (with a custom Lucene-based plugin) to power all search traffic, enabling real-time indexing and easy expansion across multiple data centers. The switch yielded up to a 10x improvement in query speed (responses often in milliseconds), much more relevant and fuzzy-friendly results, seamless scalability and stronger adoption by developers via its API.
