A Elastic Case Study
CTcue is a privacy-by-design platform that helps healthcare professionals search and extract insights from complex electronic health records (EHRs), where roughly 70% of fields are unstructured natural language. Faced with inconsistent clinician phrasing, limited on‑premises infrastructure, and the need to avoid heavy reliance on BI teams, CTcue needed a highly configurable, scalable search solution that could understand clinical context and run securely in hospital environments.
CTcue built its solution on the Elastic Stack, using Elasticsearch to power patient-centric, denormalized documents and preprocessing/NLP to handle negation and clinical context before indexing. By optimizing for search performance on constrained hardware and moving to full-document updates, the platform made previously untapped unstructured data searchable and actionable. The result: dramatically faster cohort identification and research (reported up to 40x time savings), better real-world evidence for studies and compliance checks, and improved ability for clinicians to proactively find and act on patient information.
