The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), a national broadcaster delivering TV, radio and digital verticals across many local markets, needed a way to measure content production — specifically “number of stories updated per day, per location, per time of day” — across a complex CMS and Solr-backed stack. Existing approaches relied on manual Solr queries, ad-hoc scripts and fragmented internal tools, which made it hard to get real-time, flexible insight without risking production systems.

CBC chose Elastic (Elastic Cloud with Beats, Elasticsearch and Kibana) to ingest CMS data and build real‑time dashboards and graph visualizations. The solution replaced manual queries with interactive timelines, stacked location/vertical charts and entity graphs, surfacing publishing patterns, weekly cycles and data quality issues, and enabling faster, data-driven workflow and audience-focused decisions without touching production systems.
