Guardian Life Simplifies Employee Leave with Digital-First Absence Management Program

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America partnered with EIS to build Guardian Absence Solutions after recognizing that managing multiple disability and leave systems — amid more than 200 leave types, shifting state and federal laws, COVID-19 impacts, and rising remote work — had become error-prone and hard for employers to administer or outsource. Employers and employees needed a centralized, compliant, and user-friendly way to track leave, return-to-work outcomes, and benefit interactions.

Guardian Absence Solutions combines EIS Suite microservices (PolicyCore, ClaimCore, CustomerCore, EIS DXP) with Guardian’s Reed Group LeavePro via API, deployed as cloud-native services and launched between 2020–2021. The integrated platform unifies claims and leaves into single absence cases with an integrated benefit calculator, reducing errors and time-to-market, speeding regulatory changes by 2–3 months, improving quoting and broker business, and delivering a seamless omnichannel experience that sets a new industry benchmark for leave management.
