Coles trains 35,000 staff with EI Design’s mobile learning bites

Coles, a major Australian supermarket retailer, faced the challenge of training its large, dispersed workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic. With many staff unable to access a desktop computer, Coles needed to pivot its learning and development function quickly to maintain operations and ensure staff and customer safety. They partnered with the vendor EI Design and its Liberate Learning team to address this.

EI Design implemented a mobile-first solution using their App-eLearn authoring tool to create and rapidly deploy bite-sized learning content. This approach allowed Coles to generate highly relevant training in sync with evolving public health requirements. The solution successfully trained 35,000 staff, increased learner engagement, and provided valuable learning data. A major measurable outcome was that Coles decommissioned its separate Learning Management System, having generated so much more value from its Learning Record Store (LRS).
