Case Study: Midlothian Council secures sensitive information sharing with Egress Switch

A Egress Case Study

Preview of the Midlothian Council Case Study

Midlothian Council selects Egress Switch in order to secure sensitive information shared with third parties

Midlothian Council needed a way to securely share sensitive citizen information with external third parties outside secure government networks like GSX. While GSX supported communication with central government and other public bodies, it did not cover the council’s wider network of voluntary, community, and private sector partners, creating a risk of data breaches and DPA/ICO penalties. Egress was selected to help address this challenge with its Egress Switch email and file encryption solution.

Egress implemented Switch to secure and control external information sharing, with automated message routing to simplify communication across secure and non-secure systems. The solution integrates with GSX and other secure networks, allowing messages to be split by recipient domain so users can send to both secure and non-secure recipients without separate emails. As a result, Midlothian Council improved secure collaboration with third parties and reduced the risk of breaches and financial penalties.
