Yamaha Modernizes Its File Systems to Prevent Data Loss

Yamaha Corporation of America — including Yamaha Artists Services — needed to secure and govern 50 years of audio, video and artist files (600+ users, 100++ TB) that had been scattered across portable hard drives (~60 TB), on‑prem servers and consumer file‑sharing tools. With no way for IT to enforce policies, the company faced shadow IT, risky external sharing and potential catastrophic data loss, and set out to move primary storage to the cloud with requirements for ease of use, mobility, performance and security.

After evaluating multiple vendors, Yamaha deployed Egnyte as a front end to Amazon Web Services, gaining encryption, centralized administration, content intelligence and Microsoft integration. The HQ and Canadian migrations are complete; IT now has visibility into access and sharing, can enforce policies, and users can securely collaborate and share from mobile devices—reducing data‑loss risk, protecting intellectual property and saving time and resources.
