Westmont College Graduates to Egnyte’s Hybrid File-Sharing Architecture

Westmont College, a nationally recognized liberal arts school, had adopted a cloud-first strategy but ran into major problems when replacing its legacy SAN with a cloud-only solution (Box). The college struggled to migrate more than 3 million files and terabytes of data, hit folder/file limits, suffered slow performance and “too much activity” throttling, and lacked integrated version control—forcing users back to email-based workarounds—and sought to reduce on-prem storage, tape backup and VPN costs while simplifying IT support.

Westmont deployed a custom Egnyte hybrid architecture with local Nimble storage, Egnyte Storage Sync and professional services to preserve file/folder structures, enable mapped-drive access and selective sync, add robust versioning, and integrate with existing directory services. The result was a smooth legacy migration, faster and more reliable file access on- and off-campus, elimination of version-control and capacity constraints, lower storage and backup costs, reduced IT overhead, and higher user satisfaction.
