Kona Grill, an upscale casual restaurant chain founded in 1998 with 45 locations and aggressive expansion plans, faced growing pains around file storage and collaboration. Its legacy VPN and on‑premises data center forced managers to scan, email, or use insecure workarounds (FTP, thumb drives, consumer cloud apps) to share training materials, CAD drawings, POS reports and sensitive financial data, creating security, efficiency and recovery problems and a need for a standardized hybrid storage solution.

Kona Grill piloted and then deployed Egnyte—using Storage Sync, Desktop Sync, Web Edit and Office365 integrations—to create a hybrid cloud environment, migrate off its SAN, and enable secure link sharing and mobile access.
