Earth Systems is a multidisciplinary environmental consulting and technology firm that runs global projects from a Melbourne hub, with nearly half its staff working across Asia, Africa and North America. Their teams collect large GIS and imaging files (often 5–20 GB) while working in remote locations with limited or unreliable internet, and a small IT staff needed a simple, Active Directory–friendly file-sharing solution that wouldn’t disrupt users accustomed to mapped drives.

They deployed Egnyte on a Netgear NAS in Melbourne to combine fast local access with cloud sync, and enabled desktop sync on field laptops for offline work that updates when connectivity returns. The setup preserves LAN-speed mapped-drive workflows, centralizes project files securely across offices, is easy for nontechnical staff to use, and has improved collaboration and file access across continents while keeping bandwidth use under control.
