Design Within Reach (DWR) is a multi‑channel retailer of authentic modern design founded in 1998 and headquartered in Stamford, CT, with retail Studios across North America. As the business grew, so did its digital footprint and file sprawl—an in‑house SharePoint and local file‑share setup became costly to manage, hindered remote employees with VPN dependence, and made secure external collaboration (especially after acquisition by Herman Miller) difficult.

DWR implemented Egnyte Connect—with Desktop Sync, Storage Sync and native Google Drive integration—to migrate content to the cloud and create a centralized source of truth. The solution enabled one security policy and granular file‑level permissions across platforms, eliminated the need for VPN access, reduced data‑center overhead, simplified collaboration with external partners, and supported the company’s expanding content (now over 20 TB) while increasing productivity and control.
