A Egnyte Case Study
Balfour Beatty Construction was the construction manager for a 6–7 year, multi‑phase renovation of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, facing the challenge of delivering up-to-date drawing sets for a project that ballooned to about 60,000 sheets. Printing and distributing revised drawings to a dispersed jobsite (1.5 miles from the office) would have been costly and slow, bandwidth at the jobsite was limited, and multiple contractors required secure, granular access to the latest documents.
Balfour Beatty adopted Egnyte’s hybrid cloud solution, deploying an Enterprise Local Cloud on a VMware server that synced with Egnyte every 15 minutes and integrated with the GoodReader app on iPads for offline access and caching. The approach eliminated massive printing, improved field productivity and document control, provided needed security and redundancy, and delivered substantial savings and sustainability benefits—DFW estimates a $5.1 million (71%) design‑cost reduction and Balfour Beatty avoided thousands of pounds of printed drawings.
