Rationalizing and Optimizing Network Services Management

The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), a multi‑campus institution serving over 50,000 students, faced growing pressure to modernize a critical but aging IP address management environment. Their in‑house XIXARE/SAURON system—combining custom LAMP modules and open‑source tools—was supporting DNS/DHCP for more than 40,000 active IPs but lacked scalability and full IPv6 support, prompting a public tender to replace manual processes and ensure redundancy and fault tolerance across 79 buildings.

EfficientIP won the project and deployed a unified DDI solution with NSIPAM hardware appliances (core NSIPAM 2000 units and campus/external NSIPAM 500 units), integrating the university’s existing IPAM and DNS/DHCP services. The rollout delivered full IPv6 compatibility, simplified management, improved reliability and scalability, reduced time spent on IP assignments and maintenance costs, and preserved prior investments—freeing IT staff to focus on new initiatives.
