Moving From An In-House Solution For Better Flexibility

A flagship U.S. public research university with more than 33,000 students faced an aging, in-house IPAM and manual DHCP workflow that forced hard‑coded DNS records and involved many staff to manage routine changes. The network team needed a flexible, customizable solution that could integrate with their existing Linux DNS/DHCP infrastructure and run in parallel with current systems without buying new appliances.

They implemented two EfficientIP SOLIDserver™ appliances with Multi Vendor Service Management licenses and NetChange IPLocator, using overlay management to keep their RHEL DHCP and existing DNS while adding delegated DNS management and active/active DHCP failover. Within four months the team selected, implemented and customized the solution with vendor training; the result was faster deployments, easier DHCP pool creation (now any network engineer can create pools), greater operational flexibility and measurable process efficiency gains.
