Scalpel at the Cross, a not-for-profit organization providing orthopedic and surgical care in the Peruvian Amazon, needed a better way to manage patient records for off-site medical missions. Its existing EMR system had very slow synchronization and frequent data loss, so it turned to EffectiveSoft for a custom electronic medical record solution that could support collaboration among doctors and work in low-connectivity environments.

EffectiveSoft built an EMR system from scratch with iPad apps and a local admin server, enabling offline record keeping and later synchronization. The platform included extensive patient cards with medical history, alerts, test results, and uploads for photos, videos, and X-rays; EffectiveSoft also continued with a surgery planner and inventory management system to streamline operating room scheduling and track supplies, improving transparency across medical campaigns.
