Stockholm’s Lokaltrafik AB deploys 1,100+ ticketing devices with Edvantis

Stockholm’s Lokaltrafik AB (SL), the public transit authority for Stockholm County, sought a technology partner to develop a new portable ticketing device for its conductors. They partnered with Edvantis and Modulsystem to replace their old hardware and software with a newer Android-based solution that would retain all existing functionality while integrating new third-party applications.

Edvantis developed the connected Bärbar Konduktör Utrustning (BKU) ticketing device and the accompanying xBKU Android mobile application. The solution serves as a cash register, e-ticketing machine, and card validator, meeting all government requirements and enhancing the experience for both passengers and conductors. The project was a success, with over 1,100 units installed, and the adaptable xBKU solution has since been implemented for another transport operator, Waxholms Ångfartygs AB.
