Liftra Designs Climbing Crane for Wind Turbine Installation 5X faster Using Ansys Cloud and Ansys Mechanical

Liftra, a company that designs and builds specialized cranes for wind turbine installation and maintenance, needed to ensure its innovative, space-saving climbing crane would not damage wind turbine towers. Their challenge was to simulate the complex structural forces involved in the climbing process without having to use large, expensive on-premises computing hardware. They turned to EDRMedeso and used Ansys Mechanical, running simulations on Ansys Cloud.

The solution implemented by EDRMedeso involved running large-scale finite element analysis simulations on the cloud. By utilizing Ansys Cloud on powerful Azure virtual machines, Liftra engineers could solve models with 1.8 million nodes and perform complex nonlinear contact analysis. This approach provided Liftra with a fivefold increase in simulation speed, allowing them to deliver optimized and safer crane designs more efficiently.
