Ignite’s Simulation Journey to Optimize Rocket Design and Performance

Ignite, a student-led rocket organization at The Arctic University of Norway, faced the challenge of designing high-performance rockets with minimal room for error and very limited funding and resources. They needed to ensure structural integrity and aerodynamic stability under extreme conditions without the budget for extensive physical testing. They turned to vendor EDRMedeso for solutions using Ansys Fluent and Ansys Structural simulation software.

EDRMedeso provided the Ansys tools, which enabled Ignite to run precise virtual simulations to optimize their rocket designs iteratively. This solution allowed the team to identify and resolve potential issues early, drastically reducing the need for physical prototypes. The measurable impact was significant time and cost savings, culminating in the team earning 2nd place in flight performance at the 2024 European Rocketry Challenge as first-time participants.
