A EDRMedeso Case Study
Emirates Team New Zealand, a four-time winner of the America's Cup, faced a challenge in computationally intensive engineering simulation. Their in-house HPC cluster was maxed out by massive 50+ million cell meshes used to design and optimize their yachts, limiting the number of simulations and design scenarios they could explore ahead of the races. Relying on ANSYS Fluent and Mechanical, they needed to flexibly and affordably scale their high-performance computing capabilities.
The solution was implemented using EDRMedeso's Ansys Gateway powered by AWS. This provided the team with on-demand, elastic cloud computing, allowing them to scale simulation throughput to many times that of their internal cluster. The result was a significantly accelerated design process for the 2024 America's Cup, enabling engineers to run vastly more complex simulations without being limited by computing capacity, thereby minimizing the risk of overlooking any performance detail and maintaining their competitive edge.
